Jack had finally
finished his thesis. After a reasonably slow start he had eventually produced a
sound argument and provided more than sufficient evidence to prove credibility.
It had taken Jack several months to choose a suitable topic, but he had always been
a little indecisive – it took him almost two years to settle on a field of
study. The theories involved in his thesis had come under a little scrutiny of
late, but what world-changing ideas haven’t? The fifty-seven page document was
now complete and Jack was free to enjoy a hard-earned break. He sat down to an
elaborate breakfast and picked up the morning paper; ‘Phrenology Discredited,’
read the headline. Jack read on to discover that his thesis was now useless,
and that his entire field of study had been abandoned. Seven years of research
and what did Jack have to show? ‘Oh well,’ he thought, ‘I can always transfer
to Eugenics.’
