Is it just me or is the music industry completely removed from our market economy. Surely there isn’t enough demand to keep some of this crap in the charts. Since about 1973 the success of a song seems to have absolutely no relationship to public reception. Currently Lady Gaga albums are going double platinum – have you heard her music? Ten years ago Usher was topping the charts with songs like In Da Club – the man can’t spell for fuck’s sake. Prior to that Billy Ray Cyrus sold millions with the uninspiring Achy Breaky Heart. And I don’t even know where to being with the eighties. Clearly an outside source has complete control of music production, which I can understand; someone at the top is making millions. What I can’t work out, is why they’re persisting with such shit?
