As an amateur carpenter and lover of animals, Noah was very pleased with the biblical role he had selected from God’s hat. He immediately set to task with a few planks of wood, his trusty hammer, and some childlike enthusiasm. Noah managed to maintain interest throughout the construction of the vessel, and his keenness naturally rolled over to the herding of animals. He happily encouraged a hoard of carefully selected creatures into the hull of the ship. He boarded proudly with his three oddly-named sons by his side. They took shifts peering out from the crow’s nest, waiting for the anticipated storm. After almost a week Noah’s eldest son voiced some concern: ‘Perhaps He was wrong,’ suggested Japheth – the boy was clearly destined for hell. Just at that moment God’s voice called out from some impending clouds:
“You have constructed a fine vessel my son,” commented God.
“Thank you my lord,” replied Noah.
“And the animals you have chosen are of the finest stock,” He said.
Noah echoed his original response.
“And I must add that the name ‘SV Procreation’ is quite nifty indeed,” said God.
“You’re too kind my lord.”
“But the animal classification is much larger than you might think,” continued God. “You mustn’t forget the insects, the reptiles, and the fish. Each of my creations is as important as the last.”
Noahs fear of spiders, allergic reaction to insect bites, and absolute contempt for amphibians was going to put a bit of a dampener on the remainder of the operation.
