Shane had been feeling down for the past few months. The onset of depression wasn’t all that surprising; his long-term girlfriend had left, his position had been made redundant, and at least three times a week he would step onto wet bathroom tiles in a dry pair of socks. Despite all his worries Shane maintained composure; he kept his concerns to himself. Last night the final straw arrived; the camel’s back was well and truly broken. Shane poured his woes onto an unprepared friend.
“How long since you’ve washed your hair?” his friend asked. Shane wasn’t all that surprised by the response; his friend enjoyed spending time at day spas and watching romantic comedies.
“A couple of weeks,” he replied. “Whenever I wash my hair it goes fluffy. The boys at work give me shit about it.” Shane worked on a construction site.
“I promise it’ll make you feel better,” his friend assured. “Why do you think girls get their hair done so often? There are pressure points on the scalp that need attention.” It was a solid argument. Shane decided it was worth a try.
Later that evening he washed and conditioned his hair with expensive herbal products. Following his friend’s recommendation Shane even blow-dried the damp mop. The result was an amazing, fluffy brown mass. Shane still felt like rubbish, and now his hair looked like shit too.
