The local German club sells cans of coke from the fridge at work. Although they only charge a dollar a drink the operation seems to generate quite the profit; their money tin is always overflowing with change. Manning the stockpile of beverages is obviously not feasible, so they incorporate the honour system. I remember reading somewhere that only one in ten people will ever consider disobeying unenforced rules such as these, so I guess it’s not that surprising they’re doing so well. Just between you and me, I haven’t paid for a coke since the stash magically appeared, and no one seems to suspect a thing. I simply remove a couple of coins from the jar so it looks like I’m collecting change. For some reason multiplying the theft like this seems to cancel it out – I guess it comes down to simple mathematics.
