I’m reading a Bill Bryson book at the moment; it’s essentially an idiot’s guide to the universe. His insight on evolution is impressive to say the least. He highlights just how lucky we are to be here – every single component of our ancestry, right back to single-celled organisms, was able to successfully reproduce. I couldn’t get the idea out of my mind. Two billion years without a premature death or sterility in my line – amazing. I told my friend about the revelation.
“It would be more impressive if one of your lineage failed to reproduce.” He said. “That would really blow some minds.”
