Jack Nicholson is one of the most celebrated actors of all time. He has an endless list of award nominations, honorary doctorates from almost every university in the world, and a lifetime membership to Blockbuster Video. I’ll be the first to admit that Jack’s portrayal of a madman in the Shining was absolutely outstanding, but wasn’t it somewhat similar to his performance in One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, his interpretation of the Joker, and the role he played in As Good as it Gets? Acting is the realistic portrayal of a dramatic character. So wouldn’t great acting involve the convincing portrayal of a diverse range of characters? Somehow, the world’s most critically acclaimed actor can only play a single role.
