I met a guy at the pub a few days ago. I was with a group of seven or eight people and we were seated at a table designed for four. The guy noticed our predicament and offered to exchange for the roomier position he was occupying. I caught him at the bar a bit later and he mentioned something about his work as an application designer. “That must be interesting,” I commented, reflecting on all the appealing applications on the market.
“Not really,” he said. “It’s like any other job – boring and repetitive. Lots of occupations sound all right, but that’s because you’re imagining a day or two in the field. People don’t immediately picture forty years on the job.”
